The Grass is Always Greener on Someone Else's Course Fallon girls on the first and second holes of the Fallon Golf Course during the tournament the team hosted last Tuesday (top and bottom).

The girls golf team is another local sport that has been resurrected from the dead. The girls have competed in five tournaments thus far and will only have one more before their season comes to an end. Unfortunately, the girls will not be in the state competition this year. Luckily for Coach Sandy at CCHS, she does not have any seniors and is ecstatic to have her girls for one more year at least.

Their most recent tournament took place at Spring Creek Golf Course. The Fallon girls unfortunately did not place in the teams’ category. First place went to Elko with a collective score of 444. Second place went to the hosting team, Spring Creek, with a score of 453. Third place went to Lowry with a score of 470. The team scores are determined by the team’s top four players scores added together.

For individual medalists, Fallon had one girl, Lainee Reed who tied with Jordan Maher from Spring Creek. Both girls scored 97 in the tournament, and even though their overall scores were the same a winner had to be declared. The officials had the girls go head-to-head on a playoff hole. Maher scored a four and Reed scored a five, giving Maher claim to first place in this tournament. Reed placed second and Piper Nichols from Elko placed third with a score of 101. Last week the girls played their home course tournament in an on-and-off hailstorm, and amazingly Reed shot her personal best with a score of 94.

Here is the scores for the rest of the girls on the team: Gabby Loop shot a 129; Hannah Benjamin, who had a personal best, shot a 133; Madison Lewis shot a 138 and Ava Faught shot a 151. This was the first tournament for freshman Justice Freeman, who shot a 150. The team scored 499 overall for the tournament. At the tournament on March 23, Loop shot a 121, Benjamin shot a 138, Faught shot a 124 and Lewis shot a 143 for a team total of 477.
