Set to open December 22nd, if you are not familiar with Harbor Freight Tools, you will be soon. Founded 43 years ago by CEO, Eric Smidt, the company sells more than 7,000 types of tools and equipment that are rigorously tested to ensure that customers are getting the very best quality tools at a fraction of the cost of the competition.
According to Craig Hoffman, the company’s director of corporate communications and content, Smidt believed that by working directly with factories to produce quality tools and cutting out the middleman, he could pass the savings on to customers and provide quality tools at low prices.
Harbor Freight Tools has more than 1,100 stores across the country, with over 21,000 associates, and the Fallon store will be the 10th location in Nevada. According to Hoffman, one of their priorities is having good, solid local workers. “Harbor Freight is dedicated to being one of the best places to work in retailing, offering very competitive wages, an excellent benefits package, and the potential to advance within the company,” explained Hoffman. “We were able to find the team we were looking for in Fallon.”
One of the reasons Harbor Freight Tools chose Fallon is that they feel the community is a perfect fit for what they are looking for when considering a new location. “We’re always looking for communities we feel we can serve, and it’s a well-thought-out process, planned months and sometimes years in advance,” stated Hoffman. Some of the key features they look for in a location are “good visibility and access, ample parking for our customers, and the right square footage.” Hoffman explained that their stores, by design, are smaller than big box rivals in this category, so customers can get in and out quickly if they are in a hurry. It also helps facilitate a friendly environment. “This location meets all those needs,” said Hoffman, “at a little over 1500 square feet, is the right size.”
Being active and involved members who give back to local communities is one of the core values of the Harbor Freight company. One such example of the desire to serve others stemmed from the onset of the COVID pandemic. “We realized we sell the kind of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that our front-line health professionals needed—N-95 masks, nitrile glove, and face shields,” Hoffman stated. “We immediately pulled everything off our shelves and from our warehouses and donated them to more than 1,000 local hospitals in our communities.”
Ultimately, they provided several hundreds of thousands of masks, tens of thousands of shields, and more than 40 million gloves where they were needed most. Additionally, the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Foundation also supports public high school trades education with their excellence in teaching awards, and by providing tools and tool kits for schools and students.
Harbor Freight Tools also has locations in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. They are looking forward to making it much more convenient for customers in Fallon to shop for tools and equipment. “We’re very excited to join the community,” Hoffman. The store is located at 2105 W. Williams Avenue in the old Raley’s/Beverage Mart building behind Burger King.
