Communities throughout Northern Nevada saved lives and showed their support of local first responders during the annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drives this summer. These spirited and friendly competitions pit law enforcement and fire departments against one another to see which agency can garner the most blood donations.
“These blood drives play a key role in helping maintain a safe summer blood supply in our region,” notes Nicole Jo from Vitalant. “We are honored to be able to recognize our first responders in this special way while helping save lives through blood donation.”
Blood drive participants cast their vote of support for their favorite agency as they signed in to give blood. And, the results are in! The winners are as follows:
• City of Sparks – Sparks Police Department
• City of Reno – Reno Fire Department
• City of Winnemucca – Winnemucca Police Department
• City of Fallon – Churchill County Sheriff’s Office
The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office beat out the Fallon Police Department for the win this year.
Vitalant thanks all of the first responders and community members that came out to help this summer. These drives resulted in over 500 units of blood donated helping save up to 1,515 lives. Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Battle of the Badges.
