Monday Message -- a note from the publisher
Rachel sends these notes out to members by email as a quick reminder to read the paper

“What is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days.” Except for the part where my tomatoes nearly froze last night.

When I was a little kid, and actually still to this day, my dad has always recited poetry or sang songs to us kids. On cold winter nights it was “The Cremation of Sam McGee” or the “Jabberwocky.” There was often “Jeremiah was a Bullfrog,” or “Delta Dawn,” and always, in June, “The Vision of Sir Launfal.”

When he crashed his airplane, and no one was sure dad would recover from the dramatic brain injury, we all swear it was the poetry that brought him back. Sitting in the October sun on the front porch in his wheelchair he would rock back and forth, worrying a line Sam McGee, sometimes for days until he would get the whole poem back and deliver it with a slowly returning smile.

This past week was just absolutely beautiful and being outside in my yard or running off for a hike or to kayak was a welcome respite from the barrage of the news. It was also a gentle reminder that although there are incredibly important things going on in this country right now, there are also the beautiful things that go on right here in this community. And those are the things we want to make sure to tell you about – those are the reasons we started this paper.

So, we’re working on finding all the “other” stuff that’s been going on, graduations and scholarship awards, weddings and babies, livestock shows and community meetings. We think it’s so important that we all know what’s going on in town; what our elected officials are doing and how hard the work to serve us, along with all the other good stuff. Things have been hard and serious for far too long.

No matter how barren the past may have been, ‘T is enough for us now that the leaves are green;”

We hope you’ll keep sending your great ideas and your tips and reminders of all that is good here. Be sure to check out the community calendar and help us restock it with all that is finally beginning to happen.

Please help us grow our audience by sharing this email with any friends who may not yet know about us. And as always, if you haven’t yet become a “member” of the Post, please hop over to this link and sign up for a monthly “subscription” which will help us to be able to keep delivering the local, daily news to your computer, phone, or tablet.

And THANK YOU to all of you who have “subscribed” – you are making this thing work and we can never thank you enough.

I hope you all have a great week. And if you love poetry you can read the whole poem here: The Vision of Sir Launfal
