Churchill County Democrats meet
by Jeanette Strong -- Churchill County Democrats met on November 14 to hear about planning for the 2020 Nevada Democratic Presidential Caucus, including how early voting will work. Early voting will take place at the Old Post Office, from Feb. 15-18.  Volunteers are still needed to help with early voting and the caucus itself.  Anyone interested in volunteering to help can go to https://nvdems.com/2020-caucus for more information. More information on the process itself will be forthcoming. Attendees also heard from campaign workers for three presidential candidates. Megan Macias represented the Julián Castro campaign, Jacob Allen represented the Bernie Sanders campaign, and Nick Lal represented the Pete Buttigieg campaign. Macias, the regional organizing director, told the group that Secretary Castro will hold a town hall in Minden on Nov. 18, sponsored by the Douglas County Democrats. Allen told the group he was born and raised in the Reno-Sparks area, and he had worked for Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. He is now working for the Sanders campaign in northern Nevada. Lal said that the Buttigieg campaign has opened a campaign office here in Fallon, at 40 E. Center Street at the former site of the Fallon Food Hub. Regular hours will be set soon. Lal said that Buttigieg’s philosophy is “Progressive change that improves people’s lives.” The group also discussed plans for their Christmas Party on Dec. 14, and began putting together a committee to plan the 2020 Sawyer-Bryan Dinner, which will be held on May 16.  Their next regular monthly meeting will be on January 9, 2020.       Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices.
